Ever wondered how do you wake up just a few minutes away from your home while on your way back. There is a science behind this.

When you travel the same path regularly your brain builds a mental map of the journey. Even when your sleeping your subconscious mind picks up on familiar things like turns, speed breakers, smell, traffic etc. As you get nearer to your home these things will trigger and in turn you will wake up. So what happens is when you frequently travel this path the body develops a conditioned habit of waking at the right point. During these kind of travels you will be in light sleep where the brain doesn't completely shuts down. Though some times you might be in deep sleep while your completely tired. During those times you wouldn't wake up like this. As well when you are travelling via train / bus you have a little thing going that we shouldn't miss the stop/station so your sleep remains lighter. And since home is your safe place/comfort zone this itself makes you to wake up.

This not magic infact its just a combination of habit, familarity and subconscious alertness. So next time this happens to your closed ones tell them this.
