Project Hail Mary... This movie is basically based on a novel written by Andy Weir which goes by the same name as the movie. Before this novel Weir was writing a novel called Zhek which was mostly similar to this but later he scrapped it. In an interview he has mentioned that most important elements for this novel were brought from Zhek. Enough about the book, lets get into the movie.
I would say Ryan Gosling has lived in this movie. I would also recommend you guys to watch The Fall Guy as well where he has lived the character there as well. He has performed as a school science teacher in this movie. I personally felt that the movie went in correct pace and the making and visuals of the movie was so good. I would recommend you guys to experience it in cinemas (IMAX would be great). The bond between him and the alien will be fun to watch. The alien reply will be straight forward(like a child) and humorous at the same time. In a scene he mentions he know he can't go home but made peace with it. The alien would ask the question what peace means he would say "I know I am not going home. I know why and It's okay". The alien will reply 2 conversations later that he will help and Ryan will start crying upon hearing this. And alien would say "I thought you made peace" and I loved the reply of Ryan it goes like "I didn't mean any of that. That's just something you would say." I really related to this and many would. So the movie was great.
Next thing I would like to rant about the people who sat on either of my sides. The guy sitting on my left side was laughing at 4-5 scenes where no one laughed I thought I didn't get the joke and I looked at him and I saw 2 other guys looked at him from the other side as well. And I was like okay it wasn't just me. There was a emotional scene than the above conversation(between Ryan and alien) and I heard a deep breath like when we used to cry and I saw the tears flowing out of the guy who was on my right side. I won't say I didn't feel it but I was surprised to see that. It reminded me that movies can affect people in very different ways.
Overall the movie was good to me. I haven't read the book. I would recommend you guys to experience it in theatre for the visuals.
